the time has come! (:






It's time to vote for your favorite shirt amongst the designs. There are 6 designs, 3 main designs but out of the 3 there are 2 different fonts. You can check out the designs and then visit http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_187403854614221 to vote. do note that you have to be logged in on facebook (if you really do not want to end up getting hooked in that dangerous social networking site, i strongly suggest you postpone this to after exams) and be a member of the closed group in order to cast your vote!

As yenter said, every vote counts and do vote wisely. So apparently all the shirts are white so it seems as if we don't really have much of a choice, do we? (this is really the downside to the current political system in singapore which benefits only the incumbent and disadvantages others who desire a new and refreshed voice in the parliament, besides manipulating freedom of choice and flexibility, which results in a loss of talent and resources)
Think carefully about your vote and vote wisely, with your heart (or you will have the next 5 years to repent and regret - haha kidding). And don't worry you can always withdraw your vote and vote for something else. (no spoilt votes in facebook sorry).
Try to vote as soon as possible. Lastly, it's two days til the end of mid year common test, so all the best!

the annual show
hi kingfishies (:
annual show is finally over!
23/4/11 saw us working from the morning into the afternoon, pushing ourselves to put up a good show later on that night. it was heartening to see how the show itself turned out. it culminated into a grand innovative show with everyone putting in their effort, and it can clearly be seen how we all worked together in putting up an awesome show.
well, many people may think that the campfire was awesome, not surprisingly, with respect to their expectations that they have of our scout group. i assure you guys that we not only managed to do so well because we are all awesome imba zai individuals, but it was a collective effort, the time we spent and the tears, blood and sweat we shed while making the campfire a success.
it was the consolation after the campfire that perhaps mattered, the reflection of how we performed and how we managed to reach the outcome. throughout the gruelling and painstaking weeks of staying back late, enduring J1s lectures and getting all sweaty, dirty, and painted, it was all worth it.
it was worth every single second spent painting that souvenir, it was worth every single second spent perfecting the emulsion on that banner, it was worth every single second practicing that dance move, and definitely worth every single second spent designing that particular prop or tailoring costumes. it was worth everything you did for 01.
like i have mentioned before: the process was meaningful and it definitely pushed you guys to go beyond your limits and challenge your different skills and area of proficiency. for those of you who can't dance for nuts or have problems dancing, i am pretty sure the experience was enriching and you guys are now more skilled and exposed to new stuff never encountered.
for those in aesthetics, you guys might not be artistically-inclined or be in AEP or something, but you guys learnt to innovate and take pride in the items you guys get to produce. the process is never-ending and let's hope we get to take back some learning points that will be useful later on.
the other scout groups who came, as much as they liked the show, they will never forget the time that they had. the impression we imprinted on us, our scout troop and to the school will serve as a memory to them, that 01 is special and unique in our own very way. great job to you guys!
the sec 1s, you guys didn't really have a choice, but i am sure you guys had fun dancing with your batchmates, the sec 2s and 3s in the other comms, i hope you guys enjoyed yourself and most importantly, feel proud that each of you guys played a part in contributing to this great achievement.
annual show is over, phew, (: mid year cts is coming up! all the best for your papers, do not slack off and study hard!
as much as i fear to say this: we study hard, we play hard. AC comes next, and sure, we can play hard. more details on AC coming up soon, and especially for the sec 1s, look out for the details.

potatoes unicorn belch
Greetings my minions beloved patrol members :)
A small little (as small as you know who's you know what) post to update the blog and to inform you on already-known-facts. To you, yes you, reader of this blog sitting in front of your computer regretting clicking enter on that address bar 40 seconds ago, you have arrived to a vital destination in your life.
Seek enlightenment from this portal of never-ending supply unicorn belch.
Ok, so what comes out of this portal? Let's take a look inside the bucket. Unicorn belch smells pseudo-funky, perhaps like what your hands smell like after using purtenpine (@29opfor inside joke heh) to wash your hands after painting stuffs. Hm, unicorn belch tells me something:

if you saw this, you lost the game. oh, and stop highlighting text. so so so outdated.
Oh dear, what could this possibly mean? Hm, sounds like campfire attendance, which brings me to the next important thing. KF's attendance for campfires is really really poor. I sms-ed and persuaded some of you to go for campfires. As I have already stressed, don't look at it as a chore, but see it as a privilege. The experience is worthwhile and you get to socialise, make new friends, mingle with other scouts and guides too :D
Keep in mind that you have to go for 3 campfires per year so just take some time off and enjoy the night out. It's important that you go for campfires, because, well it comes with the scouting experience and most of you have not even gone for a single campfire yet.
So, I expect everyone to go for more campfires coming up. I understand that MYCT is round the corner, but 3-4 hours of your time is worth it. Compromise and you'll not regret it (unless the campfire didn't turn out well). We also have to write plogs for every campfire (around 1500 words) so please come along or you'll have the same person doing every campfire plog, which is seriously boring.

an annual show

Since now we're now totally engrossed in our respective tasks and responsibilities in our AS comms, I find it necessary and pretty suitable to just express my feelings and thoughts, hopefully for the benefit of the majority who frequents this blog (i.e. non-existent circle of people).
So before I start of, let's ask ourselves, what is AS to me? Perhaps the two words Annual Show may not perceive to you as significant or you think it's just a compulsory event to be part of, and you have to force yourself to come down and slack, that's actually besides the point. Annual Show is probably much much more than that.
I may not be your most reliable source, but trust me, the experience and process that you gain and embody by the end of the grueling one month or so is worth it. Consolation of every drop of sweat, tear or blood that you have shed during that period, the sacrifices you've made will strike you deep.
Yeah yeah whatever cliche, you may think, but having went through 2 AS' before this, trust me it will totally be a rewarding and irreplaceable experience.
Back in 2009, when I was a sec 1. I was part of the dance team (much different that it is now). Not really the sick funk dance with complicated twists and moves, but basically we had to dramatise campfire songs and dance to it. Might seem easy, but choreographing our own dance and coming up with our own props (if i'm not wrong, we didn't have the props comm to do that for us) was painstakingly saikang.
I remembered having stay up to the 7-ish and spending a good 20 mins in the toilet and washing paint off my hands after painting props. I remembered the criticisms we had for our dance routine because it was kind of boring. But we pulled it off. Performed pretty well at Sarimbun, and the feeling you get after you performed and receiving an awesome response from the crowd was indescribable.
Even though I agree, standards have to be there and the end product must always be in your mind, but after you pull off a good one, you realise the experience and the process really was worth it. The never-ending sessions of working hard paid off. Even though you know that the event was only a mere 3 hours, the memory of the scouts and guides at the campfire lasts a lifetime. And so do yours. It's all about your mindset and attitude, all that I can say.
So AS is next week! (: I assume everyone is pumped up (hurhurhur) about it and let's make the last few acts meaningful by working extra extra hard and showing other scouts that we are 01 for a reason. End in mind.

resuscitation
hello guys!

So.. just to update you guys on some patrol-related issues. Just reiterating the points I said in the email: campfire attendance.
I expect a lot more people to go for campfires, not just because you feel you are forced to go because of the cf attendance requirement, but because campfires a fun! You get high (kind of) and it's an extremely sociable event and you get to mingle with other scouts and guides.
It's an exhilarating experience anyway. Oh, and did I mention the presence of guides? I did. just... highlighting my point. :)
